Washington Engineering Personnel have performed urban road design and reconstruction for clients such as counties, ports, cities, and towns, conforming to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) standards. Many of these projects involved funding from sources such as ISTEA, TIB, and LID. Our personnel are familiar with the administration and documentation required for road projects funded through these sources.
Our experience with pavement design, evaluation, overlay, and repair includes road, street, and highway applications; commercial and military runways; and a wide variety of commercial and industrial parking areas.
11th Avenue Reconstruction - Washington Engineering personnel assisted the City of Bremerton by providing the pavement design for this project. 11th Street as it approaches the intersection with Warren Avenue is six lanes wide, has a steep grade, and carries over 20,000 vehicles per day. The existing asphalt pavement was being shoved by the braking action of vehicles descending the steep grade to the stop light, creating a "washboard" deformation in the asphalt pavement. The project called for demolition of the existing asphalt pavement and replacement with concrete paving to alleviate the problem.
Our personnel researched the cost and practicality of various concrete designs, including standard concrete paving, continuously reinforced concrete pavement, fiberglass reinforced concrete, and fast-track paving. The final pavement design report included the structural design, typical section, jointing plan, and joint details in AutoCAD allowing the city to directly incorporate the information into their construction drawings.
