The 1007 Washington Street Building is a 2-story facility which previously was leased by the State of Washington. Recently the State purchased the building and proceeded to improve habitability of the facility. The east end of the building was served by an undersized capacity, single-zone heating/air conditioning unit that resulted in certain portions of the building being uncomfortable for workers. Large temperature differentials occurred across the east end due to thermal losses/gains through the single pane glazing.

Washington Engineering was tasked with evaluating the requirements for heating and air conditioning the east end of the building, evaluating various options for improvement and designing the recommended system. Extensive calculations were performed on a room-by-room basis to establish the seasonal heating/cooling loads and to determine logical temperature control zones for the spaces. A 4-zone variable volume temperature (VVT) system was designed and installed to improve worker comfort in the spaces.

A new natural gas fired 7.5-ton rooftop mounted air conditioning unit was installed along with appropriate exterior ducting, zone control dampers and a by-pass damper. The existing 208 volt single phase electrical service was removed; a new 208 volt 3-phase electrical service was installed along with appropriate disconnect switches. New diffusers were installed in each room and interior surfaces were repaired and painted.
