Renovate 3 Nosedock Aircraft Hangars
McChord Air Force Base, Washington
Washington Engineering staff personnel provided services to improve the facilities in two Maintenance Dock hangars and a Wash Rack hangar. These buildings support the C141/C17 Air Transport Wing at McChord.
In hangars 1166 and 1167, the office support areas and toilet rooms were demolished including interior partitions and wall surfaces, flooring, and ceilings. Structural columns in the hangar bays were prepared for painting. The existing steam fired heat exchanger, steam and condensate piping, unit heaters and temperature control system and panels were demolished. The main facility electrical service distribution transformers and feeders, branch panels and feeders, office area lighting, switches and receptacles were removed. The existing fire alarm and detection devices and telephone communications in the office areas were demolished.
In the Wash Rack hangar, the aircraft are housed during washdown and cleaning. The support spaces were refurbished in a similar manner as in the two Nose Dock hangars. A major addition to the Wash Rack building was the provision for an Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) fire fighting system for protection of the aircraft in the hangar. The AFFF system includes pumps, water storage tank, control panel, detectors, and foam distribution systems.
In general, the projects provided:
