Fort Lewis Vehicle Maintenance Facilities
|
|
This project was for the design of alterations and repairs to the existing vehicle maintenance facilities located in blocks 3100 and 3200 at Fort Lewis, Washington. The vehicle maintenance facilities were originally constructed in the mid-1950's and most of the facilities had not undergone significant modernization since that time. The facilities were designed with vehicle maintenance buildings on the west side of the compound, motor pool areas in the central portion of the site and grease ramp/gasoline dispensing areas on the east side of the site.
The primary work elements for this project were:
- Renovate 16 vehicle maintenance buildings with attached shop offices, briefing/debriefing rooms, locker rooms, and secured arms rooms. Twelve of these structures were constructed with six maintenance bays, each accessed through a 12 foot wide overhead door. Four of the structures were built with five maintenance bays, which are accessed through a 15 foot wide overhead door.
Interior electrical and replacement of electrical service disconnects, wall repairs, repainting, roof replacement (standing seam metal roof), window repairs, heating and ventilation repairs, and replacement of the vehicle exhaust system and the compressed air system and compressors. Fire alarm pull boxes with a local alarm were designed. Existing vehicle bay rollup doors were replaced with electrically operated vehicle bay rollup doors. A trench drain was installed across the entry to each vehicle bay door; the trench drains and the building rainwater leaders were connected to the storm drain system.
- Modifications to the buildings included construction of a grease pit at the location of the drive through bay at the west end of each facility.
- Modifications included construction of a double wide vehicle bay in each facility adjacent to the drive through bay. New insulated, electrically operated rollup doors were provided at all vehicle entry locations.
- Repair and repaint sixteen vehicle grease ramps with overhead covers.
- Repair, repaint and load test two overhead 7+ Ton cranes.
- Replace exterior fencing, remove interior fencing and repave parking areas.
- Construction of two 250 car parking lot
